No one wants to keep their smartphone connected to a charging cable or wireless charger for hours. Fast charging is important nowadays. This guide compares the various fast charging methods and accessories available to iPhone owners.

Which iPhone supports fast charging?
The iPhone models listed below support fast charging. However, not all of these fast-charging iPhones come with a fast-charging accessory.
- iPhone 8 Series — iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
- iPhone X Series — iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max
- iPhone SE (2020)
- iPhone 11 Series — iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 12 Series — iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max)
- iPhone 13 Series — iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max)
Only the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max come with a fast charging adapter and a USB-C-Lightning cable.
The new iPhones 12 and 13 come with a USB-C cable, so you only need to buy a high wattage power adapter for fast charging.
The 5W charger and USB-A-Lightning cable included in the package of older iPhone models (iPhone X series and earlier) cannot provide fast charging speeds. You need to buy a new fast charging adapter and cable.
USB-C wall charger or power adapter
Although the power adapter specifications (wattage, voltage, etc.) vary, we currently offer the fastest charging options for iPhones and iPads.
For the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series, a charger with a minimum output of 20 watts is required. We recommend the Apple 20W USB Power Adapter and MagSafe Charger (see image below). You’ll also need a real lightning cable to experience fast charging speeds.
To quickly charge iPhone 11 Series and earlier devices, use an Apple USB-C-Lightning cable and a charging adapter with a power rating of 18W or higher.
If you don’t know the power rating (or wattage) of the charging adapter, check the certification label on the bottom, top, or side of the adapter.
The MacBook’s USB-C power adapter charges your iPhone at maximum speed. The minimum power rating for these adapters is typically 60W or higher. Connect the genuine USB-C-Lightning cable to your MacBook’s power adapter, connect it to your iPhone, and make sure it charges at Lightning speed.
MagSafe and Magsafe Duo chargers
MagSafe charging (reintroduced in 2021) is a relatively new way to charge supported iPhone models. MagSafe works on the principle of wireless charging technology, but requires the use of magnetically connected accessories.
Currently, only the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 series support MagSafe wireless charging. This is because only the iPhone has a magnetic charging coil built into the back cover. The MagSafe and MagSafe Duo Chargers can deliver up to 15W and 14W peak power to compatible iPhones.
For optimal wireless charging speed, connect your MagSafe or MagSafe Duo charger to a 20W (or higher) USB-C power adapter and place your iPhone in the charger. Do not place your iPhone in the MagSafe Charger before plugging the power adapter into the wall socket. This will prevent MagSafe from supplying maximum power to your iPhone.

MagSafe doesn’t provide as much power output as wired charging with a fast charging USB adapter and cable. However, this technology provides faster and more efficient charging speeds (for iPhones) than traditional wireless chargers. Wired or wireless charging?
Wireless charging can be convenient and flashy, but it’s not the fastest way to charge your iPhone. It’s also not the most efficient way to charge. Wireless charging can generate more heat and warm your iPhone.
If you need a quick charge, cables and power bricks are the best bet. In summary, this is all you need.
- A third-party USB-C power adapter that supports high wattage USB-C chargers (20W and above) or USB Power Delivery (USB-PD).
- USB-C-Lightning cable.
With these accessories, you can charge your compatible fast-charging iPhone from 0% to 50% in about 30 minutes. Even if you support fast charging, some factors can prevent your iPhone from fast charging. The next section will focus on these factors and their respective solutions.
Tips for charging your iPhone even faster
Even if you are using compatible or high power charging accessories, your iPhone may slow down charging. Here’s how to charge your iPhone to speed up charging and improve battery condition.
1. Use genuine charging accessories
Charge your iPhone with genuine accessories from “Power & Cables” in the Apple (online) store, or visit your local Apple store. Bad or counterfeit charging accessories will slowly charge your iPhone and shorten battery life.
2. Temporarily disable optimized battery charging
Optimized battery charging is a feature that delays battery deterioration by reducing the amount of time the battery is fully charged. This feature is enabled by default on supported devices. This is why the iPhone can get stuck at 80% when charging.
If you need to charge your iPhone to its maximum capacity (100%) quickly, disable (temporarily) optimized battery charging.

3. Update your iPhone
If your iPhone supports wireless charging, but it doesn’t charge when you attach it to a Qi-certified or MagSafe charger, installing an iOS update may resolve the issue. iOS 14.2 fixes an issue where the iPhone couldn’t be charged wirelessly in iOS 14.1. Apple has also released an iOS 14.3 update to fix an issue where the MagSafe Duo Charger couldn’t charge wirelessly at full capacity.
Therefore, keeping your iPhone up-to-date can fix hidden bugs and issues that prevent your iPhone from charging quickly.

4. Cool your iPhone
Temperature is another factor that affects the fast charging capabilities of the iPhone. Hot iPhones charge a little slower than iPhones operating at ambient temperature. If you constantly charge your iPhone in very hot conditions, your iPhone’s battery life can be shortened forever.
Apple recommends using an iPhone with an ambient temperature of 0-35 ° C. Using your iPhone in direct sunlight or in hot environments can make your iPhone too warm. Activities such as GPS tracking, navigation, games, and AR apps can also increase operating temperature.
If your iPhone is remotely hot, keep it cool before charging. Removing the smartphone case may resolve the issue. Even better, turn it off for a few minutes or charge it while it’s off.
5. Do not use iPhone while charging
Apart from the wattage of the power adapter, system activity can affect the charging speed of the phone. Using your iPhone while charging will increase the overall charging time.
Wi-Fi consumes less power than mobile / mobile. Switch to Wi-Fi or put your iPhone in airplane mode to reduce network battery drain. You can also enable low power mode to speed up charging by reducing power-intensive background activity.
USB-C charging is the fastest option
