How to fix iPhone not ringing when there is an incoming call

If your iPhone doesn’t ring when a call comes in, there might be a problem with your phone’s sound settings. Many things can prevent your iPhone from ringing during calls, and you can toggle these settings to see if they help fix the problem.

From making sure callers aren’t blocked to turning off Do Not Disturb mode, there are ways to fix iPhone that won’t ring when a call comes in.

Make sure your iPhone is not in silent mode

If your iPhone is on silent mode, it won’t ring when you have a call or any other notification.

Turn on the side of the iPhone

Simply toggle the switch on the side of your iPhone to turn silent mode off and return your iPhone to normal mode.

Restart your iPhone

If your iPhone doesn’t ring despite putting it in normal mode, you may want to restart it to see if that fixes the problem. While rebooting is a very basic solution, it works in many cases and fixes many minor glitches on the device.

  1. Press and hold Power for a few seconds and drag the slider to turn off your iPhone.

Make sure iPhone speakers work

Turn off Do Not Disturb mode on your iPhone

Do Not Disturb ensures you are not interrupted by any calls or notifications on your iPhone. This also affects your incoming calls. Turning this off is a good way to find out why your iPhone won’t ring when a call comes in.

Turn off call forwarding on your iPhone

If call forwarding is enabled on your iPhone, it will forward all your incoming calls to the specified number or your voicemail. This could be the reason why your iPhone is not ringing, as it is simply receiving any calls because those calls are being sent to the forwarding number.

Turning off call forwarding should fix the problem.

Unblock callers on your iPhone

Your iPhone will reject any calls from people you’ve blocked on your device. If your iPhone doesn’t ring certain people, you need to verify if those people are in your blocked contacts list.

If they are on the list, you need to remove them to be able to receive their calls.

  1. Access Setting app on your phone.
  2. Find the option that says Phone and click on it.

Turn off “Silent unknown callers”

In iOS 13, Apple included a feature to block calls from people you don’t know. This excludes everyone in your contacts and people you’ve contacted via text and email.

If your iPhone doesn’t ring a new phone number, this feature could be the reason why it’s behaving the way it is. Disabling it should fix the problem.

Change your default and contact specific ringtones

If you use a custom ringtone on your iPhone, try changing it to one of the default settings and see if that helps. Sometimes custom ringtones may get corrupted and your iPhone may not ring when a call comes in.

Turn off vibration on your iPhone

The vibrate option can sometimes affect your iPhone’s ringtone and cause your iPhone not to ring when a call comes in. Therefore, turn it off and see if your iPhone rings or not.

Reset your iPhone to factory settings

If nothing else works, your last resort is to reset your iPhone to factory settings. This will erase all your data including your settings and allow you to set up your iPhone as a new device.
