AirPods are incredibly small, but they also have decent battery life. You get 4-5 hours of listening time, and with the charging case handy, you usually don’t have to worry about running out of power.
But it can make you too complacent. If you want to avoid surprises, we recommend keeping a close eye on your AirPods battery life. However, the charging case status indicator is neither convenient nor reliable.
Luckily, there are several ways to check your AirPods battery life and charging case on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. All possible methods are detailed below.
Check AirPods Battery Life – iPhone & iPad
If you’re using an iPhone or iPad, you can check the battery life of your AirPods and charging case using the AirPods charging status alert, battery widget, AirPlay screen, or Siri.
AirPods charging status alerts
If you want to know how much charge your AirPods have left when you’re not actively using them, open the charging case close to your iPhone or iPad. After a short wait, you’ll see an alert with relevant details.
You can also check the battery life of both AirPods individually. Just take one of her AirPods out of the case and the status alert will update accordingly.
Add Battery Widget
If you want to know how much power you have left while using your AirPods, you need to add the battery widget to your iPhone or iPad. In addition to revealing information in real time, it can also track the battery life of other devices and accessories such as Apple Watch and Apple Pencil.
On your iPhone, press and hold an empty spot on your home screen. When everything starts shaking plus Icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Then scroll down the widget gallery and tap batteryselect the size of the widget (small, medium, large), and tap. add widget.
The battery widget shows how much charge your AirPods have left. It also briefly displays the battery life (including the charging case) of the left and right AirPods separately each time you connect them to your iPhone.

If you’re using an iPad, you can only add the battery widget to your today view. Swipe right from the first home screen slide to display the Today view (if it’s not already there), press and hold any empty area, tap plus Go to your widget gallery and add a battery widget in the size you want.
Open the AirPlay screen
If you don’t want to use the battery widget to check your AirPods battery life, you can use the AirPlay screen instead. Not very convenient.
Swipe down from the top right of the screen to open Control Center. If you’re using an iPhone with Touch ID, swipe up from the bottom of the screen instead.

On your Mac, you can use the Bluetooth status menu or Siri to know the battery life of your AirPods and charging case.
Using the Bluetooth status menu
On a Mac with macOS Big Sur or later installed, first open Control Center from the top right of the menu bar. Then expand the Bluetooth control.
Instantly see how much charge your AirPods have left. If you’re not already connected to your Mac, open the charging case lid to see battery life for both your AirPods and charging case.

If you’re using macOS Catalina or earlier, you should already see a Bluetooth status icon in your menu bar. If so, just select it and point it at your AirPods to see how much battery life you have left.
You can also ask Siri to tell you how much charge is left in your AirPods.choose Siri Click the icon on the top right of the menu bar to make a request. She should respond instantly with battery life stats.
Check your AirPods battery level – Apple Watch
If you’re using an Apple Watch, you can check your AirPods’ battery level using Control Center. Or you can ask Siri.
