How to add or change photo widgets on iPhone

The introduction of Apple’s iOS 14 also brought conveniences to the iPhone, useful features that give you direct access to your favorite apps. Widgets are also great for customizing your iPhone (or iPad) home screen the way you want. The iPhone Widget feature has been improved in iOS 15 with Widget Suggestions.

You can choose to have a single widget or combine multiple widgets in a Widget Stack. If you want to customize things even further, the Widgetsmith App can help you. These widgets are different from those shown on Today View. Instead, these widgets sit right on the home screen next to your other apps.

This guide will show you how to add or change Photo Widgets on your iPhone.

How to add photo widgets on iPhone

Adding a home screen widget is easy.

  1. From the iPhone home screen, press and hold an empty space until your apps go into jiggle mode.
  1. Touch + in the top left corner.
  1. This will display all the potential widgets you can add. Scroll down the list (or type in the search bar at the top) until you find it Photo Widget.
  2. Clap More widgets. You can swipe between three different widget sizes.
  1. By default, the widget appears in the upper left corner of the screen. Select it and drag it to the position you want, then press Accomplished at the top right.

Note that the widget acts like another app icon – everything will adjust to fit the widget. You can also add other widgets this way: everything from Gmail to notification settings. This is a great way to get shortcuts to your most used apps.

If you decide you don’t like the widget, just long press it and select Remove Widget to remove it from your home screen. You can always add it back later.

How to change photo widget on iPhone

You may not like the default image displayed on your extension. The basic photo widget is limited. You can neither select the selected photo nor adjust how often it rotates between images. You can remove specific photos from your featured photo.

The best way to change Photo Widget is to not use it. Instead, you can download new widgets from third-party apps that give you significantly more control over your widget preferences. Open the App Store and download the app called Photo Widget: Simple.

Once the app is downloaded, you can create custom photo albums to display on your home screen – even if all you want is a single photo.

  1. Open Photo Widget: Simple app.
  2. Touch Widgets at the bottom of the screen.
  1. Clap Create Album. If you’re using the free version of the app, you’ll have to see an ad before the next step, but it only lasts five seconds.
  1. Tap the album name at the top of the screen, give it a name, and tap Confirm.
  1. Tap the + icon in the lower right corner of the screen to open your photo album.
  2. Select the photo you want to add and press add in the upper right corner. You can add up to 30 photos at a time and up to 100 photos per album.
  1. Crop and rotate the image as much as you like, then tap Accomplished.

Then close the Photowidget app and add the Photowidget to your home screen.

  1. Once the widget is on your screen, press and hold it and select Edit Widgets.
  1. Besides Widget Typeclap Choose, and then press Image.
  1. Next Select Albumclap Choose and tap on the album name you created earlier.
  1. You can customize the widget by choosing how often to edit your photos and see if they rotate in random or sequential order. Finally, tap an empty spot on the home screen and the album you selected will appear in the widget, one photo at a time.

The Photowidget app pulls images directly from your photo library. You can add photos at any time; To choose which ones appear, just create multiple albums.

How to use Widgetsmith to change Photo Widget

Another option is to use the Widgetsmith app to customize your widgets. It has a lot of functions included for free. However, you can get more styles of add-ons by subscribing to the premium version of the app for $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year.

  1. Download the Widgetsmith app from the App Store.
  1. Open the Widgetsmith app. By default, you can add three app sizes: small, medium, and large. Scroll down and tap Add small widget.
  1. The application will start the creation process. Select the style of the widget you want. You can choose between Photos, Photos in Album, Photo Date, Photo Date, etc. If a style has a padlock icon in the upper right corner, it means it’s a premium style. Option image.
