Create your own live wallpaper on your iPhone using GIFs, videos, or photos

Do you prefer animated photos to still images for iPhone wallpapers? Fortunately, iOS has native support for live wallpapers. As long as you’re using an iPhone 6s or later (such as an iPhone 12), you can quickly set your live photos to appear on your lock screen and home screen.

However, unlike stock dynamic wallpapers, live photos only animate on the lock screen. However, it still helps to add a bit of personality to your iPhone, and there are many options.

If you already have an image in live photo format, it’s very easy to set it as a live wallpaper on your iPhone. However, if you want to use GIFs or video clips, you must first convert them to live photos.

Note: 1st and 2nd generation iPhone SE models do not support live wallpaper. The same applies to all iPad models.

Convert GIFs and videos to live photo format using GIPHY

GIPHY is a large online GIF database and search engine that provides a free iPhone app that you can use to download animated images as live photos. In addition, you can edit, upload, and re-download your own GIFs and videos as custom live wallpapers.
